Our Family and Friends On Our Minds and In Our Hearts

You cannot believe the total outpouring of kindness, flowers, cards, food, calls, texts, just showing up at our house, prayers literally on the phone with us, prayer circles at church and other places, invitations to get out and do things, door dashes....everything that friendship and family means is what is happening from those closest to us.  All of that goodness has happened in just a few days. 

It truly means the world to us, you have no idea how grateful we are.  Chuck and I are both pretty social people and we are fortunate that we have a so many amazing people in our life and we get our energy and strength from deep conversations with those we love. Don't hide your feelings from us....we know that our news seems devastating and it is worrisome. We feel the same and it's better for us if we talk about it and talk it through. We have learned so much and it helps to have real talk, not superficial talk. 

Fierce in the Forest is my women's social group here in the Wake Forest, Rolesville, Youngsville, Franklinton, NC area. There are 1400 women in that group - can you believe that?! I have 3 admins that help me run the group, because it is a lot more work than people realize. Adrienne, Kim and Laurie just show up for me over and over again. THANK YOU from the total bottom of my heart! They come to my house, full of women power and love and just take over and take care of me and we talk, laugh and cry. It is so good for my mind and heart. 

Chuck and I have never been closer. We are as one. I am the luckiest girl in the world to have Chuck. But, he needs his family and friends more than ever before. 

So, for our friends and family that want to do something....stay in touch, pray for remission, your support means the world and we want to see you as often as we can. We are still a fun couple that likes to do fun things! Let's goooooo have some fun! 

We hope this blog will keep you updated when there is news to share, and that way, we can get right to hanging out, having fun and real talk, and really laughing a lot!

The Last 2 Weeks

Hello all, this is Chuck writing.   First off, I want to thank all of you for walking this journey with us.  The prayers, calls, texts, messages, food, cards and visits have meant the world to us. Jill just completed her 2nd week on the medication of Ibrance.  So far so good…The side effects have been fairly minimal and her blood counts are good.  She is still adjusting to the hormone therapy and is experiencing on/off fatigue, pain and some nausea.  The side effects have lessened from the 1st medication since she started the anastrozole several weeks back.  She is stronger emotionally and is a trooper and our hope and prayer is that these medicines are working to suppress her cancer from moving and reappearing.  She will have a Pet Scan in a few months to determine how effective the radiation and hormone therapy has been.  We are confident that they are doing their job! What A Difference A Week Makes

 Hi Friends and Family - Here we are, the last day of May - can you believe it? Time sure does fly, that's not just a saying...that's for real.  Tomorrow, June 1, will be 2 months since we first met with my oncologist and hear him say, "I think this is your breast cancer metastasized to your bone".  In some ways, it's hard to believe it has been 2 months already, and in others, it feels like yesterday.  From day 1 (probably from birth), I've been complex. I've lived a somewhat complex life in my growing years and beyond at times, and this breast cancer since 2010 has been a little out of the norm - a little complex.  In my primary cancer in 2010 (remember....if you're metastatic, the original breast cancer is called "primary"), my breast surgeon at the time, Dr. Stocks, said "this is Sheryl Crow style cancer - you have one little tumor...we'll do a lumpectomy and radiation likely and that is it."  Well...nope. Radiation Complete - The Latest News

 Hi Friends and Family! It's been 12 days since we've written!  Here is the big news - RADIATION IS COMPLETE!  Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of SBRT Radiation is like? haha!  Sure you have! Well...it's a very precise science. Literally, this radiation finds its way around organs and the bladder, bowel, to get right to the tumor site and zap it without damaging my insides along the way.  Before the SBRT radiation is even scheduled, a 3D model is created using specific software, with the CT Scan and Pet Scan that I did earlier. The  radiation therapists - I always had 4 of them align my body precisely—within millimeters—using lasers and real-time imaging called Cone Beam CT Scan.  This is done each and every time.  There were sheets underneath me the radiation techs would pull to move me, and the the bed itself would move.
